Viettel Burundi’s Lumitel is a mobile operator that is owned by the military-backed Viettel Group of Vietnam. Its launch in 2016 saw it attract an impressive one million customers within a mere three months. Lumitel made significant investments in a fiber backbone network and now operates the largest 3G network in Burundi, which is available in all districts (collines).
In 2016, Lumitel became the first mobile operator to launch a 4G/LTE network in six provinces of Burundi simultaneously. These provinces included the central parts of Bujumbura, Gitega, Ngozi, Rumonge, Makamba, and Muyinga. This expansion helped Lumitel capture over 50% of the mobile market in Burundi in just two years.

The Stater price of their discounted Yellow SIM is 500 Fbu in their shops and outlets (store locator). This is an ongoing promotion for up to 2 SIM cards per user. The regular price is 5,000 Fbu. Note that you need to get a 4G SIM for 4G/LTE, not one of these 3G SIMs that are around.
